Knife Angel
This week on Wednesday 28 and Friday 30 September Miss Blackman and Mrs Hitch took a group of Year 9 and Year 10 Drama students who were lucky enough to take part in a drama workshop at the Hazlitt Theatre in Maidstone based around knife crime and the ‘Knife Angel’ statue that is currently in Maidstone.
The ‘Knife Angel’ is a sculpture that is made from over 100,000 seized blades. The ‘Knife Angel’ was specifically created to highlight the negative effects of violent behaviour while solidifying our critical need for social change.
Not only does the Angel act as a catalyst for turning the tide of violent and aggressive behaviour, but it also acts as a beautiful memorial designed to celebrate those lives who have been lost through these violent and thoughtless actions.
Our students thoroughly enjoyed the Drama workshop and were then taken down to see the sculpture. They stood in amazement at how tall and powerful it is. GCSE drama students will now be using this as a stimulus for their next project in drama and building on techniques learnt in the workshop.
We can't wait to see what they produce.
