Transition into Year 12 and Year 13
Joining Valley Park Sixth Form marks the start of an exciting opportunity to begin studying qualifications of particular interest, gaining knowledge and skills in great depth.
Academic success at GCSE level is the foundation on which success at Post 16 qualifications is built upon. However, a successful transition from Year 11 to Sixth Form is key to success and we offer a range of support during Year 11 and at the start of Year 12.
During Year 11 we open our doors to all students on our Sixth Form Open Evening, alongside regular communication on our website.
To introduce new subjects to Year 11 at Valley Park School, students receive careers interviews and attend assemblies with the Sixth Form Team, ensuring they are ready to choose their Post 16 choices from Term 2. Students also meet with our Year 12 and Year 13 students to learn about Personal Development opportunities available in the Sixth Form.
Our Induction Days in June allow students to taste a broad range of subjects taught by subject specialists, allowing students to experience the academic challenge, meet with our year 12 students and have an opportunity to talk with the Sixth Form staff.
Before starting in the Sixth Form, students can access a range of transition work here on our website. The tasks are designed to prepare students for studying the subjects. We recommend students take some time to complete tasks to fully prepare for studying the qualifications. It is also beneficial to complete the taster tasks to ensure students are truly interested in studying the qualification.
Once students join us in September at the start of the academic year, we will continue to support students as they settle into the Sixth Form. Each student will have a one-to-one meeting with a teacher and all students and families will be provided with a two-year road map detailing the learning journey ahead.
We welcome all students to join our successful, exciting and inclusive Sixth Form.
