Gap Year or Year Abroad?

Some of you may wish to take a break from your studies after Sixth Form and before you decide to go to university or onto a degree apprenticeship. It is always worth checking with your universities of choice, that they are happy for you to do this; some institutions or courses, including those in Mathematics and Physics, prefer you to go straight onto HE without a break.

A gap year can enhance your future applications and be a great opportunity to gain additional work experience, travel, volunteer, retake exams, undertake an organised project or gain some financial security. Whatever you decide to do, make sure it is worthwhile and enhances your CV and applications.
