Edexcel A Level English Literature
The new specification for A level approaches the study of literature through the lens of historicism encouraging the independent study of a range of texts within a shared context, and giving logic and meaning to the way that texts are grouped for study.

As English is a facilitating subject it can be used to support a variety of subjects across the curriculum.
WHAT TO EXPECT
- Essay-based subject; expect lots of writing!
- Prepare to read wider than the course prescribed literature.
- Conduct reading into critical perspectives on Literature.
- Expect research and pre-reading tasks ahead of lessons.
UNITS STUDIED
- Drama: Shakespeare's 'Othello' and the modern tragedy 'A Streetcar Named Desire'
- Science and Society Prose: 'Frankenstein' and 'The Handmaid's Tale'
- Poems: Post 2000 Poetry 'Poems of The Decade' and Christina Rossetti's selected poems
HOW IT IS ASSESSED
- Three examinations at the end of Year 13 (80% of final grade)
- Paper 1: Drama
- Paper 2: Prose
- Paper 3: Poetry
- Students will also complete a Non examined assessment (NEA) (20% of final grade).
