Our Library
Valley Park School Library was opened in 2014 and provides seating for up to 150 students in a purpose-built and attractive space for study, reading and research. The Library is staffed by a full-time professional librarian, supported by trained student librarians.
Key Stage 3 students have a Library lesson with their English Teacher once a fortnight, giving them time to select books, read and complete reading based projects. Supervised Sixth Form Private Study takes place in the Library and a Homework Club runs after school. The Library is open to all students before school, at break time and lunchtime. The Library was a joint winner of the School Library Association Inspiration Award in 2015.
The Library provides a venue for the English Department Book Launch event, for author visits and other external speakers. Students have the opportunity to join one of the Library reading groups and to participate in the Maidstone Area Book Awards.
The Library has a collection of fiction and non-fiction books, periodicals, newspapers, DVDs, audiobooks and online information sources, such as Britannica School and JSTOR. Students may borrow books, DVDs and CDs and make use of the printer/copier. There is a stationery shop selling essential equipment.
