Sushi Surprise
Earlier this year, year 8 Art & design scholar, George Moore, entered the prestigious Royal Academy Summer Show Art competition which was open to young artists aged 11-18. 'They were giving a handful of young people the opportunity to have their work hung in the Royal Academy Summer Show alongside selected members of the public and renown artists like Grayson Perry, Banksy and Bob and Roberta Smith,' said George.
'I decided to enter 3 pieces of Art to the show and I was thrilled when I heard the news that one of my pieces entitled ‘Sushi Surprise’ (a series of miniature matchbox paper and resin sculptures) had been shortlisted by Bob and Roberta Smith into the 2nd round.'
George's piece had been selected from 6,000 entries and was successful in getting through to the second stage as one of the 700 pieces chosen. 'Sadly, ‘Sushi Surprise’ was not selected for the exhibition,' said George, 'but I was delighted to have got this far and undeterred, I can’t wait to have another go next year!'
