Easter Decaf Event
I volunteered to help out at the Easter Decaf event on the 20th April as part of the ‘Futures Programme’.
Everyone involved with Decaf feels so passionately about making positive connections with our local community, so as this was the first DECAF event in a while, we were determined to make this a day to remember.
All the volunteers helped decorate the venue and planned the entertainment for our visitors like a well-oiled machine.
It was wonderful to work as a close team to ensure our guests were topped up with afternoon refreshments in addition to ensuring the venue had a visual abundance of Easter spectacle.
When they arrived, we greeted them with smiles because it was really lovely to see so many familiar faces from the pre-pandemic events.
We settled our guests into their seats whilst sixth form music students sang some soulful tunes to get everyone in the Easter spirt!
It was so lovely to meet and talk to our guests and hear them talk about their lives and the activities they enjoy at home with their carers or in their residential homes.
It was heart-warming to see how much they relished the opportunity to socialise not only with each other but with all of us too.
My friends and I became particularly close with three ladies, who we chatted and played bingo with. Unfortunately, we were pipped to the post for a shout-out of BINGO and a win! But that didn’t matter to us, as it was all about the fun of playing for the afternoon.
The team in charge of food were incredible and they did not disappoint! Our visitors had so many compliments for them; ‘I just can’t eat anymore’ and ‘I won’t need to eat tea tonight’ were testament to how yummy the food tasted.
It is incredibly rewarding to know that everyone had a lovely time. To hear that they look forward to the events and it’s the best day they've had in a long time. I can’t wait to work as team for our next event which will be even bigger and better!
