The Book Launch 2022
On Tuesday 26 April, Year 8 students celebrated becoming published authors after writing their stories during the Book Project in Year 7.
This was our first in-person Book Launch since December 2019, so it was lovely to see so many students, teachers, and parents there to mark this impressive achievement. Our hosts, Josh and Holly, led the evening with confidence and our award winners were able to share excerpts of their amazing work.
Our guest speaker - author Jon Robinson - told us the story he wrote in Year 7 which inspired him to become an author. The surprise ending and reveal of the imaginative cover he designed gained a great reaction from the audience; it added so much to our evening.
‘It was exciting but also a bit frightening, as I was the first one to read out a part of my story and I didn’t want to mess up,’ said Year 8 author, Eva. ‘When I finished I felt a lot of relief and excitement because I had been able to read in front of so many people. I loved hearing everybody else’s stories as they were very creative!’
Our award winners - introduced by Miss Elliott - received a trophy and certificate from Jon, Mrs Hutchinson, and Miss Merrett. They were:
- Freya, for Dedication and Enthusiasm to Writing;
- Joshua C for Most Impressive Story;
- Poppy for Most Imaginative Story;
- Abigail for Most Suspenseful Story;
- Eva for Most Terrifying Story;
- Joshua R for Most Progress Through the Project;
- Sam for Most Original Perspective.
‘I was very proud of myself for being one of the winners,’ said Eva. ‘I felt overwhelmed with happiness to hold my certificate and glass trophy because it meant so much.’
After the presentations, parents were able to purchase their children’s books to commemorate this fantastic achievement. We also enjoyed canapés from Cucina. Many thanks to Mrs Hare for supporting us in organising the event, and thank you to everyone attended. It was a wonderful evening.
