Another Side to the End of the World
On Wednesday 19 October a group of fifty-five talented young people from our school went on an excursion to Folkestone and Dungeness.
They arrived at Folkestone where students completed a sculpture trail, attempting to discover hidden artistry within the town, with a camera in one hand and their imagination in another. Students were met with colour on every building at Tontine Street, alongside crashing waves amongst Anthony Gormley’s sculpture - ‘Another side’ - situated on Folkestone’s pier.
Students then travelled along Kent’s Sea coast to a deserted place, ‘Dungeness’. One student described this place as, “the end of the world”. Here, students had the opportunity to go to small galleries as well as meet local fine artist, Paddy Hamilton. The quirky place of Dungeness presented two lighthouses, one of which students were able to climb up one hundred and seventy steps to observe some breath-taking views of the area.
All-in-all a successful trip, where students were mature, enthusiastic, and creative young adults.
