Movember
Movember is a leading charity whose aim is to change the face of men's health by raising awareness of prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.
Business Studies teacher, Mr Lowe, has been taking part in Movember for 11 years.
'It's very important to me to highlight men's health issues in this way,' said Mr Lowe, 'because I lost two colleagues to suicide in fairly quick succession. With that in mind, I pledged to run at least 60 miles during the month, as a male takes his own life every 60 minutes in the UK.'
Mr Lowe hoped to raise £500.00, but by the end of Movember, he had exceeded both mileage and amount. 'In the end I ran just over 80 miles and between us the team raised £581.00.'
Mr Lowe didn't just grow any old moustache for Movember. He grew a purple moustache! 'Colouring my Mo came about because lots of men grow moustaches in Movember, but colouring it is my unique selling point,' Mr Lowe told us. 'My form voted for purple and it provided lots of opportunities for me to have discussions with both students and staff about men's health.'
'I'd like to say a massive thank you to all the staff and students at Valley Park for their support.'
