Counsellor Inspires Students
On 24 January, Psychology students had an inspiring career talk from BACP accredited counsellor Janina Malyon, who runs a local private counselling business. She gave students an insight into working in the field of Psychology, and they saw how theoretical concepts are used beyond the classroom to support people with mental health disorders.
‘Janina gave us an in-depth look at a career in counselling,’ said one year 13 student, ‘especially CBT, which added a new layer of knowledge to my understanding from the A Level course. She added a personal touch to the perspective that’s usually absent when learning about it in the curriculum.’
‘Both groups were a pleasure to talk with,’ said Janina. ‘There were some fabulous questions and it was lovely to have individuals interested in the work that I do. Students were polite, respectful and an asset to the school.’
Thank-you, Janina, for giving up your time and for sharing your career journey with our Psychology students. ‘We thought you were very inspiring and you gave us really good advice and stories about becoming a counsellor,’ commented one year 10 student. ‘You have motivated us to think about what jobs we would like in the future.’
