Supporting Our Students at Home
We know that the announcement of school closures presents an incredibly challenging time for students, parents and carers.
Teachers and students went into this lockdown fully prepared thanks to all the work that went into making Virtual Valley Park a success last year. Students should be congratulated on their hard work last week!
However, we understand that managing life in lockdown is not easy so we wanted to share some enrichment resources that might help during times when entertainment outside the home is off limits!
Literacy
The National Literacy Trust has shared these resources:
- Words for Life - This is a useful parent platform, whether you are looking for your child to chat, play, read, listen, make or watch, get stuck in with their fun and easy activities for all children aged 0-12. This is a great resource for siblings and our future Valley Park Students too!
- Zone in - for students aged 13+. Here you'll find the best tips to boost students' reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Improvements made here will boost their confidence and progress across all subjects.
Numeracy
Last week we promised to share how our online resource Hegarty Maths can be used to support learners recap earlier work in order to become confident mathematicians.
Students are advised to talk to their teachers for advice on particular videos to explore. However, we also have a list of key skills that we would advise our Key Stage 3 Students to work through. Once they have logged in at Hegarty Maths, they can search for the video number from the list, watch the video and do the quiz.
Teachers can track this progress and praise students for their effort. Parents have said they are ticking through the list with the students.
