This Storm Shall Pass
No matter how severe the storm, with its wind howling and gates rattling, you only need to rise above the clouds to find the peaceful brilliance of the sun. In such unparalleled times, it doesn’t take much to peek above the clouds to see the acts of kindness and compassion around us.
In the years to come, we’ll be asked how we coped and we can say:
Friends and family organised food packages for one another and neighbours dropped postcards through strangers’ doors with offers of help.
Food banks went mobile and local bakeries worked through the night, every night to provide.
Social networks became flooded with volunteers alongside offers of gardening, shopping and emotional support.
Classes moved online with sessions delivered by illustrators, gym instructors, dancers, singers, musicians, teachers, actors, cooks, scientists, poets and storytellers.
Restaurants and pubs delivered food to the vulnerable at no cost and no limitation.
We had conference calls with friends, FaceTime with family and board games at home and never had we been so thankful for those professions that kept us fed, kept us healthy and kept us safe.
For a second, the world caught its breath as cars, trucks, trains and planes came to a standstill whilst drawings of rainbows appeared in windows as a sign of hope to passers by.
How apt that these rainbows symbolise that this storm shall pass and we’ll be left with the dazzling sun, reminding us how we got through this.
Together.
