Leaders in our own lives
We can, I think, fall into a bit of a trap, viewing responsibility as something that is the preserve of others... the government, parents, headteachers, managing directors - those few people who take on the role of 'the boss' across a variety of scenarios.
In fact, that can only ever be a self-limiting belief, for we are all leaders in our own lives.
No, we may not be the CEO of a company, or the number one figurehead of an organisation, but we are our own personal leaders in other aspects of our existence - how disciplined we are with exercise, how well we eat, how we choose to spend our leisure time.
How we make others feel.
The last is an important one. The only person responsible for what you say (or don't say), or for how you act towards others, is you.
We all bear the social responsibility - whether we want it or not - of being a role model, whether that be to siblings, to relatives, to younger students, or to members of the wider community.
When others look to you as an example what do they see? What do they hear? How do you make them feel?
What does that say about you?
Thinking about how you would truly respond to these questions is an indication of how much responsibility you accept for your own personal growth.
The most responsible of us will, however, reflect on those thoughts and decide what to do next, to make things even better. Those who embody the tenets of the #BeKind movement realise that even the most humble of us can, then, influence the most high-up of bosses, and that is true power.
The responsibility is yours. Lead well.
