Knowledge Organisers
Home Learning at Valley Park
Home Learning is work that is set by your child’s teachers to be completed at home.
Home Learning affords students with an opportunity to improve their attainment, develop study and revision skills, and extend their learning experience. As such, Home Learning is an integral part of the curriculum.
Completing Home Learning will enable your child to:
- Take ownership and responsibility for their learning.
- Develop confidence, independence, and motivation to study effectively on their own.
- Consolidate and extend work they have covered in class.
- Prepare for new learning activities.
- Deepen their understanding and improve their memory.
- Develop good research skills.
- Practice and enhance study skills e.g., planning, time management and self-discipline.
- Build effective routines to manage demands such as coursework and revision for public examinations.
Knowledge Organisers
At Valley Park Knowledge Organisers are students key tool for Home Learning. Research has shown that using Knowledge Organisers and regular low stakes testing, improves students’ understanding and increases their memory. Regular use of their knowledge organisers will support your child with knowing more, remembering more and doing more. Equipping them with the skills required for their GCSEs, A Levels and beyond.
Where subjects have practical elements, Home Learning will also focus on developing the skills required for practical assessments and completing coursework. At the start of each term, Knowledge Organisers for every subject will be shared with your child. Teachers will set weekly/fortnightly low stakes knowledge quizzes based on sections of the Knowledge Organisers using Microsoft Forms. Home Learning will be set through Edulink. Here you will be able to see the Home Learning being set for your child. You are also able to access the Knowledge Organisers below.
Practice Methods
To support your child with using their Knowledge Organisers, we strongly advise use of the Practice Methods below. These will not only develop memory but also their confidence in study skills and independent revision. Many of the practice methods involve another person to support testing. This is where you can support them to revise and practice their memory. These methods are used in lessons to practice these techniques. Your child will need your help to try them to see which ones work best for them.
