Eastborough students impress in Ceramics workshop
On Wednesday 11 May, year 3 pupils from Eastborough came to a ceramics workshop at Valley Park with Miss Collins.
The work created is going on display in the VIAT Arts exhibition in July held at SST. It will be displayed alongside students' work from all the secondary and primary schools in the trust.
Pupils were excited to have a day trip and workshop to get creative. They developed many skills from using the slab technique and printing with leaves into clay and then constructing their cylinder pots. They learnt how to use plaster moulds to press their leaf texture clay slabs to create portraits of people. Applied learning to Mathematics was developed with form, shape, and size.
Pupils really benefitted from the hands-on experience. 'Today has been brilliant,' said one budding artist. 'I wish I could be here every day!'
The workshop gave opportunities for several year 9 ceramics students to peer-teach, developing their communication and learning. Miss Collins was very proud of the year 9 students for showing maturity, empathy and kindness while teaching one-to-one with year 3.
Many of the year 3 students were recalling great skills from the Zoo animal workshop in November, whereby many auctioned off their sculptures for charity. True team spirit was on show at this workshop, with care and pride for the wider community, all working together for the big collaborative summer exhibition.
Well done year 3, you have really impressed the Arts department at Valley Park!
