Amazing sculpture created in Su Blackwell Workshop
Molly from year 7, and Abi, Chloe and Keagan from year 10 were chosen out of dozens of competition entries to take part in a workshop with Su Blackwell, an artist who creates amazing 3D sculptures - literally - from the pages of old books.
‘Not only were their personal entries excellent,’ said their teacher, Mr Lloyd, ‘but all four students threw themselves into the workshop and created an ambitious piece which depicts a sea monster attacking a sailing ship.’
‘Meeting Su was amazing!’ said year 10 student, Chloe. ‘She explained techniques which helped us make our project successful. I was inspired by how she made such detailed works out of delicate book pages and wire. It was surprising how much you had to improvise; if you mess something up, you have to completely restart!'
'I really enjoyed the opportunity to use a wider range of materials; being able to work with wire is something I don’t usually do. I also enjoyed working with my peers; we all had different qualities and strong points. I believe I’ve become a better artist by doing this workshop; it definitely made me a lot more confident!’
‘Our students certainly rose to the challenge,’ said Mr Lloyd. ‘All four students should be proud of themselves for producing such an accomplished sculpture.’
