National Grid Visit and Public Speaking Competition
On Friday 28 April, seven Year 9 students were taken to the Grain LNG site for National Grid.
They were able to experience how gas is brought in from across the world, to be used in households in the United Kingdom.
During the experience, students were able to see up close one of the largest ships importing natural gas into the system, to be stored in structures with the same capacity as the Royal Albert Hall.
National Grid offer apprenticeships in a variety of different roles and offer work experience, should students wish to pursue a career in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).
On Wednesday evening, a team of six Valley Park students participated in the annual VIAT Public Speaking Competition.
In the first-round students had to present a pre-prepared 2-minute speech on one of the following subjects: Space, Green, Pets, or the Alphabet. In the second-round, students had to speak for 1 minute, with only half an hour to prepare, on the subjects of Travel, Clothing, Water or Family.
All of the students did amazingly well, and we would like to congratulate Molly, Alivia, Jess, Jack and Finlay on participating. We would like to offer particular congratulations to Hamish who spoke passionately about Pets and Travel and was the eventual winner of the Lower School Category.
