Hackathon
Valley Park’s Computer Science department collaborated with Watchfinder & Co. to host a Hackathon Style Event, which culminated on Wednesday 28 June with student teams presenting their products to a panel of judges.
Watchfinder & Co. is an online retailer of second-hand watches based at Kings Hill. It is the UK's largest seller of second-hand watches.
Students teamed up to design, implement and develop mobile apps, websites and games for them.
There were four sessions, starting on 7 June, where the folks from Watchfinder & Co. explained the brief to the students. This was followed on 14 June by a Product Discovery Session Masterclass, which supported students with scoping out their feature. On 21 June there was a Development Session, which supported students with the technical elements involved in their project.
Finally, on 28 June, student teams presented their products to the judges, and after careful deliberation, the following prizes were given:
- First place: Watchfinder Roblox Game by Year 10 students, Samuel M and James R. They were given a day’s experience working closely with the Watchfinder Technology & Product Teams and Dinner for the Group (Nando’s Voucher) (£60) plus a gift card.
- Second place: Finding Watches Game by Year 7 students, Sheldon C and Faizan N. They received the same prize as first place.
- Joint third place: Watchfinder Websites by Year 8 students, Kezia A and Safiah V and year 7 students, Carys L, Millie W and Keira H. They received One For All Gift Cards worth £10.
Congratulations to all the winners!
