Students as Researchers
On 28 January, a group of Year 12 Psychology students went to the University of Kent to participate in a ‘Students as Researchers’ workshop with the School of Psychology.
PHD students Shazza and Rebecca provided students with an overview of their current research in Psychology, ranging from moral elevation to elicit prosocial behaviour in children, to the use of virtual reality headsets and exposure therapy to treat social phobias.
Students then applied their knowledge of Psychology to design their own research, considering experimental design, sampling, procedures and data analysis techniques.
Students pitched their research proposals to Shazza and Rebecca, who gave some really positive feedback about their detailed research designs. Well done to Grace, Poppy, Isabella and Sophie for winning best research proposal.
‘I found the trip a useful introduction to University life and studies,’ said one student. ‘I was able to apply University level knowledge to my current knowledge.’
Thanks to the University of Kent School of Psychology for hosting the workshop.
