Masterful Macbeth
The English Department were delighted to be able to invite Year 10 and 11 to join an abridged reading of Macbeth followed by a short question and answer session, led by comedian Joe Lycett.
A group of professionals from television, film and theatre have launched ReadThrough – a brand new online play reading service designed to improve the comprehension of English plays for students across the UK. Valley Park School were quick to reserve virtual seats, enabling our students to access live theatre during lockdown.
This was a fantastic opportunity for them to be able to develop their understanding of the play and consider new interpretations in their written explorations of the text, that perhaps they had not considered before. For more information about this and future events, please visit this page.
This has already enable students to demonstrate excellence and enthusiasm when responding to key questions about the text, in their spoken and written work.
Alexandra in year 11 sent us this:
I thought the Macbeth live production on YouTube was really good as it answered the questions that students had at the end of the play itself which allowed us to consider different interpretations of the play and characters. I felt as if this discussion really helped to develop my understanding. Also, I really liked how the actors were speaking over a Teams meeting as it gave me a really modern virtual experience of a theatre that I have never experienced before.
