Are You Ready?
I've been pondering an oft-heard phrase and - if I'm honest – have been 50% disputing it and 50% agreeing somewhat... What do you think?
My reflection started as a consequence of a phrase I hear a lot during exam-season: "Are you ready?"
When it comes to exam preparation, one can argue it's possible to be as well-prepared as the most diligent of scholars. The art of revision isn't a new one and, in this online age, there are myriad resources available at the click of a button.
Can we prepare in the same way for any eventuality? I'm not sure we can - there will always exist those 'wild card' events that catch us by surprise: that apparently-perfect scenario with a sting in its tail.
So am I proposing a refusal to accept the "I'm ready for anything life throws at me" adage?
Actually, no!
We can prepare for those wild-cards and tail-stings by working on our resilience - our Core Value of Tenacity - and that's why I'm excited to be midway through the planning process for a brand new initiative for Valley Park, starting in September: the 'readiness for anything' aspect of our Personal Development programme, that goes beyond our curriculum provision and offers us all the opportunity to say: "yes, I'm ready for anything!"
