Our Inaugural Arts Week
It's our inaugural Arts Week!
At the time of writing, what an all-encompassing week it promises to be with Matilda Jr and other highly-anticipated performances at the Hazlitt Theatre - the heart of our local community. A Dance Extravaganza, a Shakespeare play (Twelfth Night) and even an evening to celebrate our love of musicals, led by our local primary schools, are all going to be part of the fun... We have even managed to squeeze a mini Art & Design exhibition into the foyer of the Hazlitt on performance nights.
The week also marks our Summer School induction days for our newest recruits to Year 7, and culminates in the first ever VIAT Festival of Art, Literature and Music on our campus field - it promises to be quite the week; what a celebratory way to bring this academic year to its near-conclusion!
On Saturday, we launched Arts Week with the return of V in the Park, our very own music festival - and what a spectacular event it was, with a six-hour set located across both a major stage and an acoustic one. The sun shone, the bands played, and we ultimately even said goodbye to our Year 13 students who have persevered through the strangest of times (including, at one point, when the pandemic banned even singing!).
Thank you to all our supporters, for coming along to V in the Park and all our events this week. I know our students appreciate playing to a full house, and it does all of us good to stop once in a while, enjoy a passionate performance - and then remember that all the performers and exhibitors are students. One can only imagine where these students could be in five or six years time…
There promises to be a whole series of "wow!" moments this week, I am sure. See you there!
